I believe that only a dealer can do this and have it apply for registration needs.

Try having a look at some of the threads in this section :-

I would imagine Usil is correct, that a dealer would have to do it to give you the paperwork to prove it's been done.

Just a word of warning, read this THREAD

Your bike will probably show up as an import, if you were stopped, and they might start asking questions.

Not being a killjoy, just advice.

As others have suggested, I'm sure that if you have to get the bike power restricted to the 100 BHP limit, for the purpose of getting a CoC it would need to be done by an officially recognized dealer and have proof that its been done. That's likely to cost you lots as they will be obliged to do it the official way.

I also believe there are heavy penalties for the dealers if they de restrict bikes. If you thought the UK legal system hard, the French is a lot harder !

Hi Davetiler

I was discussing this with a particularly nefarious friend this morning who made this radical and disgraceful suggestion:

Buy a spare full power TL1000 engine from the UK next time you go over (about £450), have your bike correctly limited by a french dealer for registration, then swap the engine before roaring out on to the open road with 122bhp.

Needless to say, I admonished my friend for his deceit and let him know he was a cad, a bounder and a ne'er do well.

I am going through this process at the moment and a year on I still have not managed to get the SV1000 registered with the full fat power.

Both the Prefecture and the dealer said it will have to be restricted by a Suzuki dealer for it to be accepted and registered. This is going to cost 2000€ or there abouts as the ecu will need to be changed and also the headlights, so not worth it. I am thinking about going to another Prefecture where full power bikes have got through okay and trying there.

The only possibility I can see is if you restricted it yourself and then submitted it to DRIRE for an inspection. Not sure if you can do this or whether it would be successful.

Best of luck.

Martin

Well I suppose a variation on the theme is to look for a french restricted TL engine, swap it for yours to get inspected/certificated, and then swap it back once you've got your carte gris in your hand. Then you'll have a french registered bike with a full power engine and another engine for spares.

My dodgy mate told me to say that...

I will be very interested to hear what happens when you get to the Prefecture. Hope it works out okay.
